Craig Austin Wingate, known professionally as CAW, is an independent American singer-songwriter. CAW’s connection to music began at the bright age of five when he was introduced to the piano. Self-taught until he was 28, CAW took up private lessons to improve his playing.

CAW grew up listening to Carey Simon, Tracy Chapman, and Depeche Mode. His own taste in music solidified after borrowing Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill from a high school friend. From Morissette, CAW went on to discover Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and Seal, all of which influenced CAW’s own writing style and sound, and can be heard in his debut album Strangers.

Strangers is a predominately piano-driven alternative rock album about CAW’s romantic relationships in his 20’s and early 30’s. The album was produced by Francis Gorini, a London based music producer who CAW met while living in London, England.

CAW’s released his second album, Rumbling With Complexity in December of 2023. Like his first album, Rumbling With Complexity is deeply personal. Written over a span of three years, Rumbling With Complexity explores the world of complex feelings, grief and loss in particular. While his album Strangers timidly explored and expressed venerability, Rumbling With Complexity is just that, a rumble of complex emotions. Like Strangers, this album was created in collaboration with music producer Francis Gorini of London Mastering Studios.
